These group standards are issued in accordance with the requirements of Part 6A of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms (HSNO) Act 1996. The group standards came into force on 1 July 2006.

This includes algaecides, antifoams, biocides, boiler water chemicals, coagulants, disinfectants, flocculants, neutralizing agents, oxidants, oxygen scavengers, pH conditioners, resin cleaners, scale inhibitors and any other substance involved in the treatment of water. This also includes raw materials used in the manufacture of water treatment chemicals.
